“It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope.”
~Robert Francis Kennedy
I offer this “article” as an invitation to take full advantage of this powerful moment in Egypt’s history, one that is also our own victory, regardless of where we live or what freedoms we currently enjoy. I invite you to explore with me, the metaphysical opportunities in each step and “happening” that unfolded during an 18 day social
movement that if fostering incredible change, one that Social Networking is being credited with “causing,” not just supporting.
About an hour ago, on Twitter, I posted this statement: We are witnessing a macrocosmic example of the transformational power of unity and solidarity. Imagine the potential in the micro-you...
That is what this invitation is truly about...looking at the outer reflection – all of it, every evolutionary moment, as a series of lessons and reflective opportunities to look at yourself, your personal opportunities to transcend patterns, agreements, beliefs, actions and attitudes that inadvertently, and often unconsciously, are contrary to love, compassion, empathy, gratitude, surrender, faith, unity and trust. This is the very recipe of energies that when cultivated, enable us to return to our innate potential, or what I have come to call, a process of “Returning to Our Original Intention.”
This is an opportunity to look at the direction of your own ripple, whatever that is and whomever it is destined to touch.
This all really began yesterday morning, when, by all appearances, my computer decided to go on vacation, shutting down within 3 minutes of each reboot. Since my focus has been to BE THE FLOW, not just going with the flow (which can look and feel very different), I knew there was nothing I could do in that moment (without getting more irritated) so, I asked, “What is mine to do today?”
The immediate response to my question was to be a prayerful witness to what was unfolding in Egypt. I was also called to provide whatever prayers and comments wished to be made in response to some of what I was seeing as “fear and hate based statements and assumptions that were contrary to the vision of unity, solidarity and positive transformation in Egypt manifesting in the timing that was most Divine.”
I began posting (on Facebook, twitter and several prayer forums) prayers and perspectives that resonated with cultivating a consciousness of faith, trust, love, compassion, empathy and surrender and am including many of them below.
A big aspect of what I was sharing was aligned with an absolute sense of knowing that all was unfolding in perfect and right Divine timing and order. I also sent several messages to Wael Ghonim, the Google Executive who is seen as one of the main voices (again, via Social Networking sites) that inspired the protests and the peaceful approach around the entire country of Egypt.
At one point I found myself writing, in response to him tweeting that it was raining on the protesters, “when the skies are crying, remember that every drop is a prayer.”
I also sent Ghonim a note that said “we cannot change what we've grown to tolerate" (this quote was inspired by a man named Mike Murdock) and, “we may not know our purpose until we are living it. Thank you for following your hearts to initiate change. Blessings upon all Egyptians, thank you for inspiring intolerance and inspiring positive change."
When Mubarak spoke last evening, I could feel into the shock and disappointment that millions were feeling, but never felt out of harmony with a deep faith that all was unfolding perfectly.
I held the space of a prayerful witness until about 1:00 AM EST, then rested and awoke again this morning to again, move into this role of a witness and offer prayerful perspectives if and when called to do so.
At one point, my 15 year old daughter and I crawled under the covers and prayerfully awaited the latest statement from Mubarak, delivered through Vice President Suleiman. We both teared up, and spoke of many of the things I am sharing in this article. She then told me to go write a note to “my people.”
As I got onto facebook and the prayer forums, I first posted:
It is humbling to witness such a powerful example of what unity and solidarity can create in the field of possibility. Thank you to all the people of Egypt. Let this inspire you to unify and stand for solidarity in yourself, in relationships with Source, others and the earth.
I then began looking at prior posts, beginning yesterday and my hope is that sharing them with you today offers a few golden nuggets, especially when looking at the ways you wish to liberate yourself, in any area of your life, or even in the restrictive thoughts that block your fullest, most authentic expression.
Facebook Post on Feb. 9, 11:14 AM
Change is happening...pray for the most graceful transition in leadership in Egypt and for the highest consciousness to guide this regime change! It takes guts to step up and it takes guts to step down...blessings upon Egypt and all of our relatives throughout the Middle East! Ho Mitakuye Oyasin!
After Mubarak’s Initial Announcement on February 9th, I posted:
I still believe in anew Egypt, a greater good that is emerging. Faith in divine order.
Let the transition begin. Be peace.
All demands will be met in right and perfect timing. That may not be today. We trust in higher wisdom than any human idea of what, how, or when.
When asked on one of the prayer forums if I could forgive Mubarak, I replied:
If we are spiritual folks, what choice would we have? Forgiveness is Creator's most powerful medicine. Anger is a choice that takes us further away from truth. If we are cultivating compassion and empathy, forgiveness is a given...there is really no other option. The question is...can we hold him in prayer? Can we hold our "enemies" in thoughts that contribute to healing?
Empathy helps us understand and appreciate the cultural influences on his ideology. Saving face, honor etc. are things we can all relate to, yet probably not to the degree where the whole world was watching, judging, etc...Divine Empathy helps us see as God sees. Know as God knows. None of this was a horrible mistake, It was all part of the plan...towards greater realization of what unity and solidarity can actually accomplish in what is one of the largest countries in the Middle East!
Understandably, there were many comments being shared that were more aligned with anger, hatred, mistrust and fear.
Here are two of my responses to comments that revealed underlying fear and mistrust of the military being able to lead the nation towards greater democracy.
Trust in the unfolding, be aware of how our own fears and judgments limit potential and possibility.
Egyptians have already set the tone...by affirming, for days, in one shared chanting voice that rang out around the world, that "The People and the Military are One." Hold this vision for unification as the first step towards democracy. Allow for the transition to take place in Divinely orchestrated increments...and think how hard it is to make changes in our own lives, even simple changes that reflect what we know to be right and true...and how often we backslide, fail, begin again...if we look at the micro level (individual) we can cultivate compassion, understanding and trust at the macro level.
WHAT EGYPT IS TO YOU...
Robert Kennedy also said, “Few will have the greatness to bend history itself; but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of this generation.”
I am blessed to have experienced many history bending moments in my life, such as healing from Lupus, giving birth to two babies that doctors said would never make to term without killing me (they are 15 and 17 today!), finding love, and witnessing too many miracles to list here.
We cannot predict the impact this historical moment will have, for the citizens of Egypt, Tunisia and Jordan, and for the entire region and beyond, all the way down to me and you. Protests are already beginning in Thailand, demanding the ousting of the current regime. Who knows what could happen in Cuba, China, Myanmar, Nepal, Iran, North Korea and other countries still under dictatorship.
AND, on a personal level, I invite you to explore at this time, is a question of how all of this energy around liberation and change can inspire you to liberate yourself and take big stands for truth, equality, solidarity, progress, freedom, and living your purpose in ways that are more aligned and authentic with your very reasons for existence. What story is ready to be rewritten, so that it supports, not detracts from the reality that you truly wish to experience?
What does “true democracy” mean to you and does it really exist in your life, work and relationships? When you look at your own “rules and laws” how do you govern yourself and the world around you; as a dictatorship or a democracy? What about the relationship you have with others; your workgroups, spouses, lovers and children...?
Have you become tolerant of the intolerable, within your own thoughts, beliefs, life and relationships, giving subtle but certain permission to a continuation of the undesired?
Are you attempting to change things you have come to hate, unconsciously undermining the very healing you wish to foster – be it towards your body, past, relationships, or any current circumstance that is painful, or wanting to change? In other words, are you trying to heal absent of love?
Are you struggling to stay patient and trusting and instead, finding yourself reacting in fear and anger, as opposed to faith and love?
This is a very important time for us all. Allow yourself to be affected. Not just for the breif moment of time when this is all we are talking about and not just in terms of the celebration for the Egyptian people and ultimately the entire Arab nation. Be affected by liberating yourself from something that is really up to you to think and act in a way that is honoring, not punishing. Allow yourself to see what is happening as an inspiration you can either act on, or slowly allow to become less and less relevant to something really big and important that is asking to be transcended in your own life.
Remember that the world is watching you too...open to inspiration and love to reveal and extract all that is contrary to peace, unification and healing, within your own thoughts and perspectives. Be the change you wish to see (thank you Gandhi) and be the light you wish to shaine upon and within you.
There are two movies that we’d love to share with you, and invite you to share with others, as you reflect upon what I’ve shared with you today.
The Power of My Way Movie was my theme song (as I was liberating myself) for many years before we ever shared it globally and is found at www.thepowerofmywaymovie.com and “Perfection Unfolding” is found at the top of http://powerofourway.blogs.com
Enjoy them and pass them along!
Blessings, Ani
