According to a Medium article, day 5 in The Power of Our Way: A Path to a Collective Consciousness is about collective shifts in consciousness and soul missions. The article discusses how raising one's vibration and frequency through love and thought can impact the energy field around them and those they touch. It also mentions the importance of remembering the power of one's presence and how their thoughts and love have power and resonance. 

Make it, Master it, Matter

Do you ever feel like a back-up singer on the stage of life when you (and everyone else) knows you should be playing the lead, or do you feel like a little fish in a very, very big pond that deep down knows it is time to grow?

Several months ago I was watching a television show called “Shark Tank,” a reality show that provides a forum for small business and inventors to present their product ideas to a group of investors.  Some of the “contestants” had developed money making ideas and that was their primary focus—money. Others presented ideas that clearly came from a deep soul calling, each of them longing to “matter,” make a difference in the lives of others, and earn a living doing so.

The passion was clear, the actual product, promise and methods, not so much.  At one point, Daymond John, a self-made millionaire and founder of Fubu Clothing, took one of the inventors to task.

He essentially said, “There is a saying in the business world; Make it, Master it, Matter.  The problem with you is that you want to matter before you make it!” Unfortunately, that day, the entrepreneur with big dreams went home empty handed but armed with very sound advice.

So often, I see this same phenomenon occurring with many soul based business owners, in particular with coaches, healers, spiritual teachers, intuitive and artists. The drive to serve is coupled with a desire, and sometimes a need, to matter. They want to feel like they matter. They want to make a difference.

The challenge is that they want to matter and make a difference before they have made something new, needed, and marketable and introduced it to the marketplace as something they were proud to “put their name on.”   They were slow to take the leap, put feet to their prayers, release excuse and limitation, roll up their sleeves and create.

They are passionate, creative, amazing dreamers, often with grand visions and ideas, but the earliest steps in the business development phases regarding tangible product and service creation and marketing, may, at times, fall short. Clouding the desire to matter is an underlying need to be accepted and this can lead to playing it safe; a dynamic that outpictures in all sorts of different ways, including procrastination, getting caught up in “justifiable distractions,” or drowning in patterns of stagnated creativity. 

And, as you well know, dreaming without doing leads to a lot of failure and disappointment.

They’ve taken steps but have yet to really, honestly and courageously take the big leap forward.  Some simply lack the structure, positive accountability, encouragement, feedback and the support (on all levels, including physical creation). In today’s world, there is a higher demand on soul based entrepreneurs to CREATE tangible products, rich content, and well defined services, or at the very least, have what they offer understandable enough for a potential prospect, customer or client to at least be curious to investigate for a fit for their identified needs.

The digital age has opened new doors and opportunities to develop downloadable products, ebooks, audios and classes and there is less of a need for folks to have a physical product that typically would be sold in a brick and mortar business.  The popularity of teleclasses, summits, joint ventures, social networking, etc. has made it possible for more and more talented people to step out in a bigger, bolder way. Even the trend towards content based coaching programs and offering a variety of ways (individual and groups) to provide services is making business expansion easier.

In some ways, with nearly universal access to internet based technologies, it has gotten much easier to reach markets out of your geographical regions, create a wildly wonderful set of services and products that fill the funnel, so to speak, and do what they love to do, in whatever form that evolves into.

Unfortunately, expectations and targets are often met with disappointment. This is largely due to big promises that should not have been made in the first place. This industry (let’s call it the helping and healing industry intermingled with internet marketing) is vast in opportunities…if you are willing to work at it. No matter how you see yourself being of service and living your purpose and passion in the world, odds are you will need to develop many different options for folks to connect, learn about you, and receive what you have to offer.

Ideally, to get involved in joint ventures you need a minimum of two tangible things to offer; one as a gift and one to market and you need to have a decent platform.  A common mis-take many people make is not adequately filling the funnel to meet the needs of more than one market.  Another, is ignoring the need to build rapport with people and begin to add value to their lives even before they enter into any formal relationship with you! Expecting someone to download an audio or pdf and then jump into a higher investment in energy and resources may be realistic for some and premature to others.

I have been developing curriculum and content since I was 13 years old working in therapeutic recreation.  Later I did so for inmates for 8 years and then ultimately for police and correctional staff across the state of Maryland. Later, I traveled to conferences and taught internationally in the law enforcement industry. Going out on my own in 2004, I worked on government training contracts and trained in private organizations, and later, in 2005, I began doing the work I do today. For me, product and service development is second nature and I love, love, love assisting others in their own birthing process.

I’ve been honored to have assisted many of my colleagues in developing their products, content, sales copy and marketing approaches.  It is not uncommon to create several new resources every week, many of which will be shared in different forms for a variety of purposes and clients. This last year, when I temporarily lost my vision and ended up in bed, I had the comfort of knowing that what I had already created over the last decade was in place and ready to rock and roll.  Even though I was confined to bed for 9 months because of the foundation laid, I was able to continue to work, stay connected to my passions, and earn a living.

Was that a Fleeting Thought or Divine Inspiration?

I often wonder how many times we dismiss Divine Inspiration as a fleeting thought, or worse, as an enticing idea that we interpret as unrealistic.  

I can think back to hundreds of times when I rushed to grab my journal to record the inspiration and later realized it was a Divine Transmission of sorts…a beckoning to get still, receive the inspiration and then move into action and allow the creativity to flow.

In essence, the inspiration was a request to take The BIG LEAP!

The Power of Our Way Medicine Wheel began as a flash of inspiration during a road trip with my husband. I was meditating in the passenger’s seat and suddenly the image of the wheel, in extraordinary detail, came into my consciousness. Fortunately, I was being present enough to quickly sketch it out on paper.

Two days later I was leading a group of 40 people into the wheel, sharing a process that would soon become not just the foundation of my work, but a tool that would be integrated into several programs and live retreats, as well as the focus of a book and Divination cards that are currently in development.

Are You Ready to Dance?

Last night I danced alone in the rain, underneath a lightening filled sky, and dared the thunder nation to mess with me.  Arms outstretched, I felt my clothing getting heavier and heavier as the rain soaked me to the bone.  I raised my voice to the Divine Sacred and felt free of any inclination to be self-conscious or reserved in what I was saying or how I was behaving.  The rain became my tears and my tears became the rain. I turned to each direction and sang the most powerful prayer that I know.  Actually, it was already singing to me, I just simply opened my mouth so it could be heard. In that moment, I didn’t care who saw me, how I looked, or how I sounded. I was honoring the last sentence in a prayer (in the form of a declaration to pain) I shared with you a few days ago on the blog

“And with the sacred winds and the next blessed rains, may you melt into the earth and be reborn as something more beautiful than you know yourself to be."

After all, it was the first rain since writing the prayer and sharing it with you.  The moment I saw the black clouds, I wanted to merge with them; become them in their power, freedom and unpredictability.  Even as the last bit of blue sky was overcome by the storm clouds, there was nothing in me that wanted to take shelter or seek safety.  In that moment I was neither afraid nor inconvenienced. As the wind ripped through my hair and the lightening lit up the darkened sky, I felt connected and alone all at the same time.  In spite of it being Independence Day, I had been silently—secretly--praying for a storm.  As lightening struck the ground behind me my husband smiled at me and told me I was beautiful. He didn’t look at me like I was insane, nor was he worried I would be struck by a wandering bolt of the magnificent currents of light dancing in the sky.

All he saw was beautiful.

As I thought of you, I heard myself saying, “Are you ready to dance with me?”

In that moment I was aware of both my power and my fragility. I felt a conviction to no longer tolerate what is becoming more unacceptable in my life experience, especially when it lacks resonance.  But even in that conviction, there was confusion. This was the kind of confusion that is painfully aware of how much it fears the consequences of clarity. With clarity comes the impending call to surrender to evolutionary inevitabilities that feel threatening, especially to the ways we have come to identify and define ourselves, our worth and our purpose. In the potential dismantling of what has come to define just about everything (we have all been there) we cling to things that we don’t want to let go of.

Conventional Wisdom Would Say I Have Failed…

I once shared something my brother had told me about business. He said that if someone did not say “yes” to an opportunity to do business with me, whether it was registering for a class, hiring me for consultation, healing sessions or coaching, or giving a financial exchange for something available on the website, that no matter what, it would be the result of only one thing; that I had not communicated the value…or shared my value effectively.

From a spiritual perspective, one that includes surrendering to both a Divine calling and instruction, this is a tough one to reconcile.  On one hand, I know that my hard work is not the source of my good, nor the source of abundance, or even my sense of personal value. On the other hand, I live in a world that tells us otherwise.   On one hand, I know that my life and everything I have experienced means nothing to most, yet I am aware it means a lot to a few.   

I have found myself frequently asking, “Why am I alive?” This is a deeper question than merely asking, “Why am I here?” It goes beyond the foundational importance of being aligned with one’s purpose.  Like a sole survivor of a mass tragedy, it is a question that hopes to get to the root of the specific reasons one was spared from death or was granted a miracle. It is a strange and at times, isolating place to be. So much in the world seems irrelevant; wasteful of attention, time and energy.  Other things feel obsessively important, regardless of any justification, evidence or traditional forms of support or encouragement.

All I know is that I made a few important commitments if granted the opportunity to truly live again, including teaching Awakening the Healer Within the second I was able.  I do not know if you are one of the reasons I am here.  What I do know is that I have been prepared in some very creative, unimaginable ways; not just in the last year or two, but throughout my entire life. This preparation has come through some wild and at times, crazy, out of the ordinary experiences, many of which will be shared during the upcoming Awakening the Healer Within Program at   www.powerofmyway.com/awaken.html

Dear friend,

Join me in the spaciousness of infinite wisdom - an intelligence that seeks to be felt, heard and expressed through you. It does not matter what you call IT; God, Universe, Great Mystery, Source, or Higher Self. It is all the same and knows of Itself by no one name.

You are here to give presence to this consciousness within your Self and to transcend the human mind that says you are limited.

It is time to claim your Divine inheritance and know the truth of your existence.

You are the bridge to all healing, and all healing comes from your Source, your Creator, God. 

In Lakota, my favorite words used to describe, or name God are Taku Wakan Skan Skan, which essentially translates into "something sacred is in motion."

The sacredness of this "something" in motion is a moving presence that exists in all things material, non-material, living and inanimate.

This awareness is asking to be felt, known and demonstrated in your life. You are being asked to actively participate in your own evolution, healing and growth.

And, as you know, it's not always comfortable or timed to fit into your busy schedules, nor is it willed away when you seek the illusionary solace of convenience or comfort.

You are receiving an invitation to move towards embodiment. Conceptual understanding is not nearly as meaningful, nor potent, in the ways of co-creation and healing.

But, you already know this and intuitively, you are aware that you are being nudged to integrate the wisdom that has traveled with you since your inception.

You do not lack capacity or ability and worthiness is just a given. You can argue against all of this, but to what end? Denial of your birthright? Dismissal of the sacred encoding that was born into you?

Enough! It is time to say yes to a reality that exists whether or not you see it, believe it or think you are worthy. It's not personal. It is simply a universal truth that is not capped or hindered by any self-limiting beliefs or the parts of you that resist or are unconscious of it.

 Seek communion in your breath, your thoughts, and in the moments of silence that reveal the still voice of infinite wisdom and possibility.

And if wondering today, "What is mine to do and be?" Ask in the silence and receive the wisdom that is in motion within you. Taku Wakan Skan Skan...and remember, the something sacred in motion is also you.

Be love, be peace, be hope, be faith. Be in the allness of the everythingness and rest in the grace of your Divine nature. 

These are the words that wished to be spoken today and effortlessly, they have typed themselves into existence. As much as I sat down to write something entirely different, I've long ago learned that getting out of the way is my number one job in the roles I have come here to play.

Recently, I was cajoled by many of my clients in the Power of Our Way Community to consider something that I resisted for many months - almost a full year; to really tell the truth of some of my most profound spiritual experiences. I had become attached to a picture of what things needed to look like and in my awareness of this attachment, I surrendered it.

Or, so I thought. Recently, through the grace of conflict, I saw how I had been holding back. I saw how I had denied my own self and allowed an "other" to dictate my worth. Of course, since there is no "other" in the highest of spiritual contexts, I had chosen my own denial.

You would think that a person, such as me, (so my inner ego’s conversation goes) would know better! Alas, the hilarious nature of spiritual amnesia and divine forgetting.

To Truth, I reawaken. As I come out of my own hiding, I say yes to that which I have resisted and now fully rejoice in all of my humanness.

It begins with a question. What is it within you, your thoughts, your past, and your life that is asking to be transcended, released and healed?

Healing is what delivers us into an experience of gratitude that is so potent, it naturally fosters peace. Healing, not just in physical form, but at the levels of both consciousness and identity, is how you - we – transcend stories and experiences of perceived limitation into an experience of infinite potential.

Clearing the field for infinite possibilities requires a deeper exploration of what we hold as TRUTH, and in doing so we identify the many illusionary beliefs that have created the undesired perceptions of the various worlds we live in.

Compassion enables this exploration, just as empathy enables forgiveness. To create from higher intention requires us to release anything tethered to judgments, resentments or unforgiveness. Releasing such constrictive energies will clear you of spiritual, mental, physical and emotional clutter that blocks a deeper dialogue with spirit and soul.

As you well know, gratitude is clouded by the many constrictive thoughts we carry about ourselves, others and the world. Releasing or healing that which fosters a constrictive energy (such as judgment, regret, doubt, etc.) creates an immediate and expansive opening to new realizations, creations and inspirations. It actually expands your vision and opens up that part of you that once saw from a different level of consciousness.

I'm So Excited! How About You?

Judgment, Self Worth, Trust and Authentic Expression

For years I have been criticized and judged for giving away too much for free.

I’ve also been judged for not giving everything away for free. I’ve been judged for not doing enough and doing too much. I’ve been judged for being too spiritual, too accessible, too creative and too flexible (especially when it comes to allowing special financial arrangements for those in need).

I’ve had to grow a thick skin and at times, that means exploring and ultimately turning down the volume and intensity of my own self judgments, especially since the very real possibility exists that other people’s judgments are simply mirroring my own fears.

Ultimately, what is most important is that I follow my resonance, and higher guidance, even at times when it has looked absolutely insane. And, from the highest perspective, I don’t think we can do either (interpret resonance and higher guidance) if we do not fully embody the value of our worth, trust our hearts, and be willing to step outside of traditional, cultural thinking.

Think about it for a moment. This is HUGER than HUGE. In the areas of your life where things are bountiful, perfect, flowing, abundant, and strong, odds are you have embodied the value of your worth, as it relates to that area. The areas that don’t flow in the ways you prefer may reflect where there is a lack of self value.

I think that is why my relationships, marriage and family are so incredibly amazing. I must feel worthy of healthy, happy, loving relationships (it wasn’t always like that). I can also see other areas that have not been so easy and effortless and, if honest, can identify that something is off kilter within my own thinking and the beliefs that outpicture in my reality.

Recently, I shared something my younger brother, a highly successful, international business consultant (picture a tall, 6’4”, dark, handsome, charismatic, highly intelligent, strategically brilliant, jet-setting guy in an Armani suit) told me a few years ago.

He said that “If someone does not choose to do business with you, it is because you have failed to express your value.”

To a certain extent, I think this is true. However, over the years I’ve also come to a different understanding in terms of “fit,” timing, and resonance.  And, today, even during a period of time when I’ve been unable to work in some of the ways I used to (being in bed has limited my in-person work), I can honestly say that I love and adore the people I am honored to work with.

I’ve come to trust that the groups that come together are, in fact, coming together for a Divine appointment. I’ve also witnessed many people ignore the calling of their souls and on some level, figuratively canceling the Divine Appointment that would, in fact, be the answer to their prayers and deepest longings.

For soul-based entrepreneurs, each must find a balance between giving and receiving, surrendering and strategizing, planning and allowing, dreaming and implementing, being and doing. And, we must find our own rhythm and balance and ultimately give full permission to be a welcoming and dynamic place through which our gifts can be shared and we can prosper on five distinct levels; physically, mentally, emotionally, energetically and spiritually.

For many, it is the fear of judgment, criticism or failure that prevents them from just being who they are, following their natural inclinations, and expressing what is most authentic, as opposed to trying to impress or win over those who will never be an ally, let alone a fit for the authentic and creative expressions of their souls.

They can no longer separate who they are from what they do. The Great Belonging

Like music without a melody, or words with no meaning

I arose this morning without a vision, not a glimpse nor a gleaning

Deep inside the thoughts, seemed unable to be formed

into something much more meaningful, than the tears I now adorned

 

The jewels of God’s unanswered prayers that covered skin and face

was the grief of the ancients, my people, my race

Of course I belong nowhere, or so it has been told

Too brown to be white, I heard as a small girl

 

As I grew older, I became perpetually confused

What makes us so darned different? Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, Jews?

And what is so feared, about Muslims and the Koran?

As far as I could tell, we were all part of a Divinely orchestrated plan

 

Of course I grew up in a world, built by terror, threat and fear

Skin color or accents, determined who you would or could endear

Religions all divided, between and within

Who was this God, who created us in sin?

 

Why would he do that? If we were truly made

In their likenesses and image, were the Gods full of hate?

And so I grew up, in worlds of secrets, spite and lies

I was told we are all equal, yet so many still despised

 

Anyone different, in religion, creed or race

I was the lesser of two genders, and belonged in no one place

But my God showed great mercy, to a girl in growing pain

And told me he was the God, known by thousands of holy names

 

spoken in tongues and languages foreign to my mind.

That it was people’s misunderstandings that had made them so clearly blind

And my saving grace was that, I was put on a path of service and love

It happened ever so quickly, at the young age of twelve

 

I let go of all identities, found my purpose and my truth

Cocooned in a world I fashioned, where skin color was simply moot

Yet all around me, this hatred did still reign

Now it’s nation against nation, hating immigrants and gays

 

Politicians acting like children, name calling, hate and blame

And somehow they justify their behaviors, all in God’s good name

Sure there have been some changes, on paper we know at least

But man and his ego, can turn beauty into beast

 

If someone changes their mind, about policy or law

We discount evolution of consciousness as the celebrated cause

Instead we call them flip floppers, and use their growth against them

Now it’s conservatives against liberals, bickering lions in the den

 

Personally I believe, that leaders should demonstrate change

Evolve and create more solutions, instead of causing so much pain

United we stand, divided we fall

Haven’t we learned anything at all?

 

Or is it just a game of power and greed?

That denies us of freedoms, regardless of culture or creed?

I watch them behaving like children immature

It seems as if we accept it, conflict anchored at the core

 

Hate ads and campaigns that point fingers and cast blame

Neanderthals with money, it’s a dangerous political game

Grow up and get on with it, it is time don’t you see?

To see all people as sacred, as holy, and as born free?

 

Some people won’t admit that they really haven’t changed

That they don’t really want better, so all of humanity can gain

Instead they hold onto the rhetoric of the past, hating portions of the population

Even within their own families, communities and nations

 

I used to believe I was lucky that we lived in the land of the free

Yet there’s still a generation of ignorance, denying that liberty

Belongs to all the people, across oceans and all lands

That all the borders built, have been built by hands of man

 

Holy men preaching hate, saying only a few can be saved

Politicians masking hatred as worthy ideals are all the rave

Doesn’t it seem funny that in 2012 we still can’t seem to agree

That all life is precious, and it is this that we refuse to see?

 

I wonder if there ever, will be that blessed day

When what we all do is aligned with all of what we say

And that what we say is said from love, compassion and respect

That we no longer fight to be better than or best

 

But rather we grow up, humanity as a whole

And begin to care about each other; that this becomes the core

Of every nation and religion, to find a common ground

To recreate this world we live in, every city, every town

 

Yes it will take courage, to go against the grain

Yes you’ll have to evolve beyond all your self-justified pain

 It begins with the individual to forgive and move on

And stop looking for what is different than you, as something that is wrong

 

Personally it is easy when you open up your heart

Compassion and forgiveness is a worthy start

Admit where you’re confused and ask to understand

Take personal responsibility and reach out a gentle hand

 

You may call me a dreamer, idealistic and naïve

No matter your opinion, I still bet you would agree

That what we have been doing, up until this point

Isn’t really working, and that something’s out of joint

 

And that maybe we could pursue a higher form of thought

So all the work that has been done, will never be for naught 

And we’ll know that using fear and hatred to manipulate for gain,

Violence and oppression is what truly has been insane

 

I wonder who we’ll give credit to, as history unfolds

And a greater story of past and present soon it will be told

That what once was wrong will be seen as right and right will be so wrong

That the essence of why we all exist will all clearly become known

 

A higher vision already born, of unity and love

Will make its mark in the hearts of all, in all nations under God

Where no other is caste above another human being,

and we co-create a better world by simply changing what we’ve been seeing

 

You may not think it possible, but I ask you then what’s the point?

And why with such vast choices would we not anoint

Compassion and love as our ambassadors, and finally choose to live

All as one and one for all is possible, when we all decide to give

 

Our time and energy to love and care, because it is what we do

Come together in unity and love because we’ve all worn the other shoe

This is what will save us from any more disgrace,

A humanity reborn in love, on behalf of the entire human race

 

It can all start now, right here, right now, today

There is no valid reason to wait even one more day

Clean up your mind of conditioned clutter, take responsibility for your shift

Accept a higher calling, and live like you can truly live

 

What kind of God would create so many, just so they can hate?

It just does not make any sense, it cannot truly be our fate

But I am just one speck of God created in time and space

So I’ll need your help to begin again and quicken up the pace

 

Are you in or out I ask, can you step up to the plate?

And align with a will higher than most, releasing fear and hate?

It’s all about us choosing to live the power of our way

And together we can rise, into a brand new day

 

Where all our children can feel safe and sheltered from all storms

Where love is what we choose from and it simply becomes the norm

Retune our eyes to beauty and see the good in all

This is my heart’s desire and though the order may seem tall

 

I do believe it possible, probable in fact

If we all just take a moment and choose the highest act

One of good will and shared fortune, you soon will come to see

That it really is as simple as moving from “me” to “we”

 

Us and them no longer works, as if it ever has

Too many lives unlived or lost, present, future, past

It will be worth it in the end when we all look from above

That all it took was a simple shift; a change in our perspective

 

And we’ll be proud of where we ended and how we all got there

We’ll laugh at our own misunderstandings, and fix what was unfair

So will you join me in this dream? Yes it may take time.

But after all we are all related, the fruit of the great Divine

 

So the time we take to right ourselves is worthy, it makes a difference don’t you know?

The only real requirement is a willingness to grow

Above, beyond and back to center is where we’ll need to travel

And all the stories and mythologies will finally be unraveled

 

We can co-create great strides, and live heaven here on earth

Personally I think that is why each of us was birthed

So join me on this journey, back to a wisdom once inknown
