For the Fathers

Dedicated to Magan, David, Brian and Brent

 

For the fathers alive, and those who’ve passed on

For those yet to become, and those we’ve not known

 

We pray for deep peace, and the realization of truth

Of gifts received and those given, for all who stepped into those shoes

 

No matter the story, walked with today

We bless all that was given, and in gratitude, we say…

 

Thank you for shaping us, in the unique ways that you did

For giving us life, today, in gratitude, we give

 

For those who were tender, in words and in touch

For all that was unspoken, we send you our love

 

For those who were complicated and difficult to know

Your gift was our longing and inspiration to grow

 

For those who were absent in time, emotion or space

We open this moment to an awareness of grace

 

For those who were loving, in deed and expression

We honor all gifts, and the hearts that expanded

 

For those who were critical or emotionally unable

We ask for soul-level healing, acknowledging the strength that was enabled

 

For those who encouraged us in every endeavor

We thank you for supporting our passions and pleasures

 

For those who were wounded, confused and afraid,

We ask for deep comfort in the good that you made

 

For those who didn’t know how to give and receive,

We release our resentments, so painful pasts are relieved

 

For those who have chosen to raise children not of their own,

We thank you for all of the ways we have grown

 

For those who lashed out, in confusion or pain,

We ask for gentle healing of all wounds that remain

 

For those who died young, leaving children behind,

We now gather all wisdom of spirit and mind

 

We surrender to a realization that we would not be the same

If you had been any different, and had not given your name

 

For as we continue, to awaken to our Divine Plans,

We know you were chosen to expand our perceptions of man

 

And so today we simply celebrate all you have taught,

And accept at a deeper level that it was all not for naught

 

We are who we are, and not yet what we’ll be

And, today as is given, it is only the good that we’ll see

 

So on this Father’s Day, in humility and truth

We simply say “Thank you” for just being you!
