I have to admit that there are still a few things that can really get my blood boiling. Being the "take responsibility for your own shift" chick means I immediately begin to dissect my own thoughts and beliefs, ask to heal anything within myself that is contributing to the projection, and do my best to stay aligned with my commitments to be a positive force in the world.
And...this is different, and it needs to be spoken.
Every day I receive emails and promotions regarding Law of Attraction in some form or another. What baffles me is not one of today's self proclaimed LOA experts has ever talked about the principles of tithing (at least none that I've heard). Rather, it is all about acquiring.
Just last week I was forwarded an audio from two LOA/ manifestation experts and the entire focus was on giving your first "portion" to yourself to use for personal development.
My eyebrows raised, I took in a deep breath, continued listening and once again, I heard nothing about tithing, nothing about giving, and certainly nothing about God. It's just confusing to me considering most refer to themselves as spiritual teachers, yet don't seem to know about this ancient principle and law of tithing.
Actually the entire call seemed to really have one motive; to use law of attraction and the idea of investing in your own personal development as being the number one priority so that folks would give themselves permission to invest money in this person's program. It was all about giving to get something.
Several years ago Paula Langguth Ryan and I had a Conscious Dialogue called "The Truth about Tithing."
It's not a secret, and it is not a get rich quick formula. It is a spiritual practice that goes back to pre-biblical times, across all ancient cultures and religions. It is a way of being in the world. And, it is a practice that is purely about being an expression of gratitude and appreciation with your time, talents and treasures - not to get, but to give.
Enjoy listening to the audio from that dialogue (below) by brushing your mouse over the grey box and pushoing the arrow...
Then, if called, please post your questions and comments and let's begin talking about other spiritual laws that aren't necessarily as attractive to our egos, nor inadvertantly playing a part in the perpetuation of more lack and separation, or our culturally influenced desires to find that magic bullet to wealth...

about tithing in the NT.3. Tithing's ppsoure was to feed the priests (as you have pointed out, they had no way of feeding themselves) we are the priests now (so if we follow the law, we should tithe to/feed ourselves). This is not really a reason but something to consider. What is my tithe (to the church lowercase c) used for? From the limited cases I have seen, the majority goes to the Pastor's salary, staff salaries, the building mortgage(s), power and heat bills, maintenance fees, etc. In fact, in these cases my tithes have been reduced to very little that actually went to some sort of missions or outreach opportunity. For this reason, we do not put money in the offering plate. If we see a need, we give to it directly. Just something to think about. Thanks for this post you have raised some excellent questions.God's Glory,LewP.S. I do believe that we are commanded to be generous with what God has given us.P.P.S. I believe you may discover that some believe the Israelites actually had 3 tithes, which meant they gave something like 23.33% of their gross income. So even if we are suppose to tithe like they did, we're probably not doing it properly anyway.P.P.P.S. Again, as you pointed out, the passage says that we can spend the money on whatever we want if we are too far from the temple. Well since I am too far from the temple I will spend it on what I want in praise of God of course. By the way, note that it says I can use my tithe for wine and liquor too don't tell the abolitionists that, they'll probably rip that page out of their Bibles!P.P.P.P.S. Nothing really I just wanted to see how many P's I could put on this comment sorry for the rambling. Have a great week!
