A few weeks ago, my 16 year old daughter shared her perspectives after receiving some “bad” news about a family member.
She said, “Mom, every prayer is answered by God, just not always in the ways we want. There is no such thing as an unanswered prayer.”
She shared the prayers she had been voicing on behalf of her beloved relative (before the bad news) and she, in her amazing wisdom, began connecting the dots to the potential lessons offered underneath the muck of the crisis.
The Good News and The Bad News
The good news is that prayer works…and, the bad news is that prayer works.
We are all familiar will the old adage, “Be careful what you pray for.” And, you’ve probably heard the saying, “Pray for patience and expect to wait in a lot of lines.”
Prayer Initiates Elevations on Numerous Levels
For most, prayers are typically focused on a fixed outcome, such as healing of a dis-ease, an increase in money, a new job, a soul mate, or whatever the pray-er perceives as the end result that will bring them the most peace and comfort.
But here is the thing. Every prayer; every request (for something that is different than what you are experiencing) or statement of desire, initiates invitations to elevate the conditions of two influential factors of what is manifesting – or is able to manifest - within your awareness and your life.
Think about it. God receives “Jane’s” prayer to meet and fall in love with her soul mate.
God’s first response is, “Ah, so Jane is ready to meet John, wonderful! Hmmm …unfortunately, John isn’t quite ready for Jane and they both have some growth requirements to complete before they meet! Jane’s current level of consciousness is not quite a match to fully receive love, so I’ll begin there and give her some opportunities to clear some of the unconscious underlying beliefs that will get in the way. I think a brief relationship with Jeff will give her the opportunities she needs for this level of evolution. She’ll think her heart is breaking, but truly, it will help her open her heart to John!
And, of course there is the geographical relocation I must arrange before November! John lives in California and Jane lives in Texas. If John proceeds with his Divine plan, without fighting against it, which is his reputation thus far, he should be ready to meet Jane on November 3, 2010 at the Starbucks nearest to his home. Now, how can I get Jane to California in November? And, what will speak to her in a way she recognizes and listens to my instruction to move to California?”
Are you following? In direct response to Jane’s prayer, God needs to attend to two (well, actually much more than two) important details before Jane can meet her soul mate; One, the organizing details of Jane’s life (where she lives, what she does for a living, and figuring out what will get Jane to move to California) and two, elevating her beyond her current level of consciousness, which is not aligned with her desires…not yet..
When focused on a particular outcome based prayer, we often don’t consider the RESONANT REQUIREMENTS. Allow me to provide a tad more explanation…
1. The Organizing Details of Your Life – in response to any request for change, the details of your life will need to organize themselves in support of the conditions to be able to exist and be sustained.
2. Your Consciousness - your consciousness (your thoughts and perceptions) needs to be elevated to meet the resonant requirements of your prayers.
Let’s go deeper into this exploration referring back to The Law of Chemicalization, something I have written about and taught over the last few years. I see it as the governing and organizing process that brings our lives and consciousness to the levels that resonate – are in harmony and support – of our desires.
When activated, the chemicalization process gets to work – internally and externally – initiating changes that often feel unsettling at best, and may create the temporary illusion that “nothing is going right,” or that the prayer is going unanswered. In reality, it instigates a process of cleansing that which is out of resonance within our lives and our consciousness and begins to introduce you to that which is.
Emmet Fox says this about the chemicalization process:
“It seems as though everything begins to go wrong at once. This may be disconcerting, but it is really a good sign. Suppose your whole world seems to rock on its foundation. Hold on steadily, and let it rock, and when the rocking is over, the picture will have reassembled itself into something much nearer to your heart's desire.”
So, when we say “be careful what you pray for,” we are really saying, “Get ready to be chemicalized!”
This exploration is so juicy and powerful that I can’t quite cover it all in an article.
