A Letter to Your Soul for the New Year

This is a letter to your soul for the New Year here on planet earth, so if you don't mind, could you read it aloud so it can hear it in your own voice?

 

The world is changing rapidly and we, as the ushers of a new and evolving consciousness, are being prepared in some mighty and mysterious ways! A time of reflection, gratitude and re-creation, we face an incredible opportunity to remember our very reasons for existence and come back into alignment with higher truth.

 

As we enter into the New Year, we must remain steady in what we know to be true and sacred. Evolution is usually met with resistance and the birthing process isn't always comfortable.

 

In spite of stark projections, I believe that we--and the world--are changing in the very ways we have prayed for. We are finding our voices, embracing our dreams, and cleaning up that which is not a match for the vibration we each wish to project into the creation of our lives.  

 

Many of us have faced the challenges of loss and transition over the last year. Life has turned us upside down and sideways, yet always, always we land on our feet once again. In the illusion of aloneness, we find sanctuary in prayer, or music, or nature and realize both the humor and necessity of our human dance into divine forgetting.

 

The contrasts shed light on all that we have to be grateful for. As my husband always reminds me, "When we face the light, the shadows fall behind us." Yet, we can only face the light of today when we are willing to look forward and release anything that fetters us to the past.

What will we remember when we look back upon 2009? How will we acknowledge our own growth and abundance? Will we be able to appreciate the massive evidence of positive change? Will we appreciate our own willingness to heal our relationships and pasts and finally understand that regret just prevents us from being witness to the perfection of the present? 

To know, without a doubt, that you are loved, supported and adored may be the greatest wish ever dreamed. The truth is that this is a given. You are. We are. And when you forget, this community will be here to remind you. 

Many of us have lost "sight" of a vision for our lives that is absent of cultural conditioning and a list of "shoulds" that seem to define happiness, success and fulfillment. So much of what we think we want has been influenced by the various cultures and subcultures that we identify with or want to belong to.

 

Your current pictures of what you believe is possible, or what you believe you are worthy or capable of receiving into your life may unconsciously limit you from opening to an expanded picture of what the New Year wants to bring you. 

This is why I am sharing this letter with you today. I originally began writing it to the folks who are getting ready to start the two week treasure mapping class, yet, as my fingers clicked on the keyboard, knew I needed to share it with the entire community.

 

I wish to share so much with you. I wish to share just a sense of what we are capable of when we let go of what we have been taught by the world. Love, healing, peace - it is all right at our fingertips. . .Ultimately it is simply about reconnecting with an inherent essence that exists within you and supports you in both the physical and non-physical realms.   

 

You, as both creator and "the created," possess an innate power to manifest that which you desire and which is in alignment with your soul path. Most importantly, you are being called to bring yourself into wholeness and gratitude and heal that which prevents you from seeing yourself as a creative force in your life.

 

At the same time, as I am reminded of often, we must remember that although we are creators, we are not the Source of all of our good. Yes, we carry the energy and therefore are a physical manifestation of Source/God in the physical. But, the moment we attach to the idea that all of our good or abundance comes from ourselves or others, we dismiss the greater truth that abundance comes from a Source of infinite supply.

 

Ask of your Source and surrender to Divine Timing and an Order that is incomprehensible to most of whom walk with human eyes and hungering hearts.

Lack of clarity, unworthiness, fear, and lack consciousness blocks the communication of our soul's longing to be received clearly by our creative source.

 

Replayed stories of woundings and victimization remove the power we possess to facilitate change in our lives. Plus, the pattern of recalling a past experience (and all of the equations we create) is creative in and of itself!

 

Maybe the saying should go, as it is spoken, so it becomes.

 

Ancient wisdom shows us the power of prayer, intention, energy and sound to transform, heal and transcend.

 

Pray believing and the whole world changes. Surrender attachment and open to even greater possibilities - potentials you can't even begin to imagine.

 

Forgive the past and immediately open the flow to a wellspring of beauty that awaits your receiving. Release judgment and feel the healing power of compassion enter into your life.

 

Love what you once feared or hated and understand the blessing of being loved unconditionally in your own life. Give what you most desire. Share your talents and passions. Stop avoiding coming into contact with the immensity of your greatness because we need it - all of us.

 

About a dozen years ago, I began writing letters to my Source. What began as a "O.K. I'll humor myself and see what happens" activity has become, at minimum, a twice a year gift to myself and my creator.  

 

My most memorable experience was writing about the man of my dreams and meeting him just 10 minutes later (yes, we've now been married for 11 years!). Even the house I described in the letter manifested itself into our lives just over a year later. Everything I wrote about came into my life, everything.

 

Right now is the perfect time to reflect and see yourself entering into a new  and creative time in your life and this activity is a perfect way to call in the New Year.

 

It's simple, yet has some basic elements, and I'm encouraging you write two different letters. First, write a thank you letter for everything you have learned, received and all of the ways you have grown over the last year.

 

Even the most miserable of experiences warrant gratitude and when you seek the gifts, the treasures reveal themselves in transformative ways. Plus, it puts you in a conscious state of gratitude and that, my friend, is a highly creative and attractive state! 

Then, dating your second letter one year from the day you write it, write a thank you letter to the Universe for all that you received and manifested (yes, in past tense) over this next year.  Yes, in 2010!

 

Project yourself into the future and reflect upon 2010 as if it has already passed. Get elaborate and bold in what you are saying thank-you for and note any resistance that comes up because it usually indicates unworthiness or a block that you need to clear within yourself.

T’was the week after Christmas

All the presents now unwrapped

Family gatherings and phone calls

It went by like a snap!

 

All the weeks of preparing

And grabbing last minute gifts

We prayed for front row parking spots

And no extra pounds added to our hips

 

After pigging out on pie

And eating way too much turkey

We set our sights ahead

Feeling the New Year lurking

 

It taunts us just a little

Asking “how’s the last year been?”

Did you accomplish all your resolutions?

Forgive both foe and kin?

 

Are you entering the New Year

Full of faith or doubt?

Are you gonna hide a little longer

Or have your aspirations grown some clout?

 

Do you feel worthy of love abounding?

Feeling ready to break through?

Are you sensing something different coming

The emergence of a new you?

 

Have you tried the age old “secret?”

Read all the books on wealth?

But feeling it all eluded you?

The clues hidden somewhere on your shelf?

 

Maybe it’s because you’ve been looking

Outside yourself again

Magic bullets and secret potions

Yet still struggling to pay the rent

 

What if it’s much simpler…

easier than you think?

It’s about aligning with your purpose

and finding the internal missing link

 

Uncovering the unique recipe

Of what you came here to be

How you’ve been infused with all you need

And the secret is what you see

 

Within yourself, that is

A spark of Divinity

You’ve got everything inside of you

You just got to set it free!

 

But you’ve been inundated for years

Awaken to the truth

Buried deep within your soul

Just think about this for a moment

The potential that exists

When you create and choose from wholeness

And embrace all that you resist

 

Admitting to yourself

About the truth of who you are

Your brilliance, beauty and perfection

Acknowledge your gifts and you’ll go far...

 

Above the heights you have imagined

Beyond dreams you’ve seen as wild

After all, you are born of love

And will always be God’s child

 

If you truly knew your mission

The reasons you are here

The purpose for your existence

And the magic hidden in your fears

 

They all reveal an opportunity

To release limitation in your mind

Go deeper into soul and subconscious

You might be shocked at what you find!

 

That underneath all that crap

You’ve collected along the way

Is the clue to your original intention

And living the power of your way

 

It’s probably not as complicated

But it does require time

To remove the tarnish from the surface

So who you are may shine

 

As bright as the sun that lights your day

And the stars that illumine the sky

The moon that descends for the suns arrival

Never bothers to ask “why?”

 

It simply surrenders to what’s natural

And doesn’t fight the flow

No complaining about how it waxes and wanes

Or it’s ever-changing glow

 

It doesn’t say, “I’m in the mood

to be something different than I am!”

It doesn’t wish to be the sun,

or descend into the world of man

 

No, it’s perfectly content

With the role it has been given

Wanting more, or less, or different

Doesn’t prevent it from fully living

 

It dances in the sky at night

Disappearing as we awaken each new day

Making way for the sun to feed us

And guide us on our way

 

It doesn’t feel any smaller

Just because others can not see

The bigger truth shadowed by the sun

Does not make it any less free

 

To be itself every day

Shine its light on all the land

Be happy with the changes past and future

Acceptance and faith go hand in hand

 

And make for a life of service

To the reasons you are here

To make choices from a place of love

And to move beyond your fears

 

Allow the abundant blessings

Of who you are to be revealed

Tear down the walls of denial

And lay down all that is a shield

 

From the whole world actually seeing

The truth of who you came here to be

That following your destined path

Of an awakened healer is the key

 

To freedom beyond what the past has shown

As potential or possibility

Is something oh so simple

Just living life as ceremony

 

Cultivating Compassion,

Going Deeper and Honoring the Sacred

"The language the spirit understands is ritual, archaic language- motion, symbols, ceremony...

You need to go to this deeper level for healing."

Change.  If I were to use a word to describe the themes of late, this would be it. Whether you are initiating it – or it feels as if it is happening to you, and is currently undesired, change, undoubtedly, is in the air. 

Transformation. What happens when we don’t resist change, but rather surrender to it and partner with a Higher Intelligence.  

Resistance. Denial. Fear. The contrary energies that attempt to disallow the transformation that is occurring within you, your thinking, and your life, often for reasons beyond your current understanding. 

Wonderment. Awe. Openness. The supporting energies of awakening to the voice and vision of a higher intelligence that is seeking to be the guidance in all areas of your life. These are the bridges into the awareness of your unique role in the larger picture of what is asking to be transformed at the individual and collective level. 

Last November, my Lakota elders reminded me that we were transitioning out of PTANYETU (autumn), which translates to “TURNING OVER,” and moving into a time of WANIYETU (the time of winter), which translates into “BREATH.”

We believe that all animate beings move through 4 distinct stages, 4 aspects of the Soul, yet Western wisdom has not always addressed (or cultivated) change from this perspective. I speak briefly to these stages at the end of this audio. You can also listen to it here as you continue to read this article...

Much of what I know, practice, and teach today has been influenced by the sacred knowledge and ceremonies practiced and passed on by my indigenous teachers over the last decade. Most are not shared in public forums, or the audios and articles shared with the general public.

As we often remind folks, “this is not a tourist stop,” to collect souvenirs or novelties. These teachings are sacred, and we must be responsible with how we share and use them.

Many of you saw an example of how indigenous teachings and ceremonies can be “adopted” and applied improperly, with grave outcomes, as was experienced in the recent tragedy in a Sedona “sweat lodge” ceremony by someone who (in my understanding) was neither “trained” or authorized to facilitate these ancient rituals .

For those of us on a traditional indigenous path, we understood that the teachings and rituals were misapplied, probably with good intention, but without the knowledge and consciousness needed to truly honor these sacred traditions and the ways this medicine is passed along.

 In a recent conversation with one of my Lakota elders, I was reminded of the “medicine” I was recently given, and the purpose I am to live. As I received his words, and was given a few ceremonies to initiate some changes I am making, it became even more clear (and somewhat ordained), that this level of work is becoming even more important – and can only be passed on in a sacred way. 

These ways are given through much preparation, to the "right" people (who truly resonate and commit), and through a deeper surrendering to my own emerging forms of service.

Initiation, Activation, and Transmutation

The challenge that so many of us have is related to traditional coaching methodology and other cognitive/behavioral change processes is that they do NOT ADDRESS the SOUL, ENERGETIC, and SUBCONSCIOUS LEVELS.

So, changes appear to be temporary, or lack the depth needed to fully root and ultimately blossom (and fully ground) into the beauty of our lives.

Initiating a SHIFT requires an ACTIVATION of your inherent capacity for self healing and the transmutation of energy held within your body, mind and spirit.

For many of you reading this, you already have an awareness that you are being prepared for a larger role in the emergence of a higher consciousness. The outpicturing this heightened consciousness will inspire in the details of your life and the service varies.   

All transformation requires a new way of thinking and believing. You may not know exactly what your role (in this new emergence) looks like, but the longing you are experiencing has been growing.  And, it may appear that “old stuff” and patterns are re-emerging, things you thought you had dealt with, or resolved.

Most importantly, the areas of your life that are not a match for this next phase of your evolution and service are being shaken up and brought to the surface for healing, resolution and transcendence!

There is a term for this shaking up…it’s called CHEMICALIZATION…and I recently wrote about this (hope you read it) mystically obnoxious, universal process of alignment and healing. This process is what enables your return to an awareness of your ORIGINAL INTENTION for existence.

It might be related to an influence you are to have in: 

· Transcending your past conditioning and the stories that have worn their welcome

· Your financial well being

· The healing of your body, your past, and old patterns that are no longer acceptable to you

· Your work and service

· Your family

· Your intimate relationships

· Your church, or the various communities you are connected to

· How you contribute to prosperity consciousness vs. lack consciousness

 

Consider yourself tagged as a much needed force in the ushering in of a new consciousness; one free of the fear and dependency that has been so well conditioned into our mindsets.

2. Thoughts—are the quality and content of your thoughts aligned with the experience you wish to give your Creative force, and the experiences you came here to have? If a total stranger were able to hear your thoughts, what would they learn (and think they know) about you?

3. Aligned Choices—are your choices in harmony with the will of the Divine and the pre-chosen plan and purpose for your life? Are you choosing to be in service to your greater reasons for existence? When engaged in thought and behavior, are you supporting expansion and evolution into a higher consciousness – or are you detracting from what is wanting to manifest in your life, through constrictive thoughts and choices?

4. Desires—regardless of how healthy or aligned, your core desires will either come from a place of wholeness and spiritual resonance, or they will come from a place of fragmented unwholeness (woundedness and illusion). Are your desires coming from a sense of wholeness and faith or fragmentation and fear? How can you shift so you can create from a higher place within you?

5. Creativity and Manifestation - The subtle, yet profound difference between creating from wholeness and faith vs. creating from unwholeness and fear will ultimately shape your life experiences, relationships, and your sense of self. Like does not just attract like (opposites do attract), rather, your thoughts, beliefs, and expectations give birth to the manifestation of the thoughts that are most prevalent and intensified by related emotions and expectations.

A Heightened Sense of Emergence is on The Horizon

As I said in an email (and on the blog) a few weeks ago, there is a heightened sense of a new emergence on the horizon – a new level of realization that is asking to be welcomed and embraced for yourself and those that you serve.

What is asking to be healed in your mind, body, spirit, and/or life, right now? In other words, what is causing the most pain (frustration, struggle, hopelessness, etc.) for you right now?

And, most importantly, what are you ready to transcend so you may experience true and lasting liberation and embrace the Original Intention of Your Spirit?

I am here today as not just a teacher and healer, but also as a receiver of an instant healing from Lupus in 1997.  I know what facing a life in chronic pain (not just physical pain!) is like. I also know the miracle of relief. I know the potential of healing and transcendence that exists.

This knowledge extends into every possible are of needed change…money, relationships, career, and all of the subconscious and conscious thoughts and beliefs that contribute to disharmony on all possible levels.

Foundational to all healing, are The Core Energies of Transformation; Compassion, Empathy, Love, Gratitude, Surrender, Unity, Faith and Trust.

Cultivating these energies is paramount to healing. Think about it. How often are we attempting to heal something we have come to “hate?”

One can not heal absent of love. We can not fully heal absent of faith. And, we must surrender to a will beyond our own, a possibility that may not always be seen or understood, and, above all, we must align our beliefs and perspectives with a power and force beyond our current understandings.

If struggle is present, somewhere, somehow, you have not said yes to something…what are you ready to say yes to?

And, what are you willing to say no to?

You must make a decision, just as I did that fateful day in 1996 when my doctor told me I needed to prepare to die. That’s where I am asking you to begin today – with a decision. Not a desire that comes from fear or lack. Not a longing that conjures up pain or not enoughness.

Right here and now, I am inviting you to make a decision – one that will require you to reconcile all you will need to release, including parts of your identity that are wrapped up in your discomfort or the stories of your limitations, pain or lack.

In the psychology and healing worlds, we talk a great deal of secondary gain. For those of you unfamiliar with this term, what it gets to is the fact that we don’t hold onto anything – not a thought, judgment, or any type of discomfort, unless there is something that we gain from it.  Anything we carry (as a burden) enables us to do, or be, or say, or avoid, or not do, or be, or say something.

This is really important. It is one of the primary reasons people don’t say yes to personal growth or healing, or end up sabotaging themselves when they get closer to wholeness or healing.

They are getting more from staying in the limitation than they are willing to give up to be healthy, strong, or independent of the past patterns that caused them pain.

Like the person who will have to work again if they come off of disability, or the person who will have to let go of the excuses that have been hiding them from their destined purpose – and service in the world.

Do we really have the time to waste on justifying our limitations, pain or lack?

What do you believe you need to believe in order to see this level of healing?

Write some things down. Beliefs exist at multiple levels. Some are conscious and some are not. Some exist as a result of your history, your conditioning, and what is popularly accepted at the societal level or within your social and familial groups.

Did you know that you can hold an imprinted belief at a subconscious level as absolute truth, and not believe you believe it at a conscious level?

Memory and beliefs are also held in your muscles, organs and chakras, so a simple sensation can be misinterpreted and spark a chain reaction that effects you emotionally, mentally, physically, energetically and spiritually and not even no what the heck happened to trigger a reaction.

Some beliefs can be carried in from past lives, or are imprinted at the soul level.

Again, what do you believe you need to believe in order to see this level of healing?

What is asking to be revealed in your mind and life?

How are you currently being challenged to evolve in your consciousness (how you think, and your current level of awareness, faith and trust)?

In what ways are you ready to expand and Awaken to the Healer Within?

We begin with releasing and clearing blocks to evolution and truth.

·     Over-identification with certain belief systems or cultural mores

·     Identities formed through our past experiences – I am a person who…I am the type of person who…

·     Arrogance – thinking we know it all, tried it all, or that only a quick fix, magic bullet will suffice. The path of the awakened healer is a way of living. It is NOT a temporary fix for a problem that has gotten so painful that you are finally willing to do something different.

·     We must release the habit of making decisions from fear and lack, and instead make decisions from faith and an abundant mindset

·     Judgments, unforgiveness, and resentments – the awakened healer knows that judgment and resentment are 100% our responsibility to transcend. Our state of harmony is not dependent on others. No one can be to blame for our current state of dissatisfaction – no one and nothing.

·     Ignorance or misinformation– being unaware of truth – often this includes the truth that has been passed on by others – by those we seek approval from or see as an authority in our lives. Remember, the entire medical community believed I was heading towards death. No one gave me an option of healing. No one believed it was possible.

·     Resistance – of purpose, intimacy, vulnerability, truth, health, wellness, and happiness.

·     Limiting expectations and pictures that enable you to hide or deny your gifts and the potential that awaits when you embrace them!

·     Withholding – knowledge, love, compassion, and full presence.

·     Unworthiness – just as I described the life and death impact of blocking receiving, unworthiness is deeply connected to this. You may not even be aware of why unworthiness exists, but it’s got to go!

·     Distractions and Busyness – from stillness, quiet, hearing the voice of soul and Spirit.

·     Impossibility thinking, negative expectations – Give thought to what it is you want – today. Now, list your expectations. Are they a match?

·     Unbelonging – the mythology of unbelonging has many believing they are alone – in their lives, or their experiences. You may carry a story of not fitting in that is being worn as a badge of honor, as opposed to a beacon to call forth “your people.”

·     Separation from the truth of our Oneness – separation from an intimate, friendly, inviting relationship with your Source and the parts of you that have been feeling fractured or fragmented.

Release and Expand into a Potential Not Yet Imagined

·     Release the habit of trying to fit everything into a category of good or bad, or right and wrong

·     The Universe is much more creative and imaginative than we are

·     Trust in Divine order, timing and the highest good that is coming in the form of many miracles and manifestations

·     What do you say “no” to

·     What do you say yes to?

If you are saying yes to a new reality – you might consider first saying no to the current expectations and assessments that are tainting you from experiencing a potential that you may not be privy to (yet!) on your soul’s evolutionary path.

As we enter into the last few days of 2009, we must remain steady in what we know to be true and sacred. Evolution is often met with resistance and the birthing process isn’t always comfortable. In spite of stark projections, I believe that we—and the world—are changing in the very ways we have prayed for. We are finding our voices, embracing our dreams, and cleaning up that which is not a match for the vibration we each wish to project into the creation of our future lives.

Many of us have faced the challenges of loss and transition over the last year. Life has turned us upside down and sideways, yet always, always, we land on our feet once again.  In the illusion of aloneness, we find sanctuary in prayer, meditation, music, nature, service, and community and realize both the humor and necessity of our human dance into divine forgetting.

The contrasts shed light on all that we have to be grateful for. As my husband Brent always says, “When we face the light, the shadows fall behind us.” Yet, we can only face the light of today when we are willing to look forward and release anything that fetters us to the past.

What will we remember when we look back upon 2009? How will we acknowledge our own growth and abundance? Will we be able to appreciate the massive evidence of positive change? Will we appreciate our own willingness to heal our relationships and pasts and finally understand that regret just prevents us from being witness to the perfection of the present?

Will we create the spaciousness and energetic vibration (at the chakra level) that will enable us to RECEIVE towards our highest good and the desires that are aligned with OUR REASONS FOR EXISTENCE?

To know, without a doubt, that you are loved, supported and adored may be the greatest wish ever dreamed. The truth is that this is a given. You are. We are. And when you forget, this community will be here to remind you.

Many of us have lost “sight” of a vision for our lives that is absent of cultural conditioning and a list of “shoulds” that seem to equate to happiness, success and fulfillment. So much of what we think we want has been influenced by the various cultures and subcultures that we identify with or want to belong to. Your current pictures of what you believe is possible, or what you believe you are worthy or capable of receiving into your life may unconsciously limit you from opening to an expanded picture of what the New Year wants to bring you.

This is why I am sharing this letter with you today. I originally began writing it to the folks who are getting ready to start the two week treasure mapping class, yet, as my fingers clicked on the keyboard, knew I needed to share it with the entire community. I wish to share so much with you. I wish to share just a sense of what we are capable of when we let go of what we have been taught by the world. Love, healing, peace – it is all right at our fingertips…Ultimately it is simply about reconnecting with an inherent essence that exists within you and supports you in both the physical and non-physical realms. 

You, as both creator and “the created” possess an innate power to manifest that which you desire and which is in alignment with your soul path. Most importantly, you are being called to bring yourself into wholeness and gratitude and heal that which prevents you from seeing yourself as a creative force in your life.

At the same time, as I am reminded of often, we must remember that although we are creators, we are not the Source of all of our good. Yes, we carry the energy and therefore are a physical manifestation of Source/God in the physical. But, the moment we attach to the idea that all of our good or abundance comes from ourselves or others; we dismiss the greater truth that abundance comes from a Source of infinite supply. Lack of clarity, unworthiness, fear, and lack consciousness blocks the communication of our soul’s longing to our creative source. Stories of woundings and victimization remove the power we possess to facilitate change in our lives.

Ancient wisdom shows of the power of prayer, intention, energy and sound to transform, heal and transcend. Pray believing and the whole world changes. Surrender attachment and open to even greater possibilities – potentials you can’t even begin to imagine. Forgive the past and immediately open the flow to a wellspring of beauty that awaits your receiving. Release judgment and feel the healing power of compassion enter into your life. Love what you once feared or hated and understand the blessing of being loved unconditionally in your own life. Give what you most desire. Share your talents and passions. Stop avoiding coming into contact with the immensity of your greatness because we need it – all of us.
