A thousand tomorrows
Have gotten me to today
A life of both love and chaos
What is it that I prayed?
I woke up again this morning
To a me I have let down
Dreaming in wrong directions
Time to turn some things around
Just one more day, I must have prayed
At least a thousand times
Three years passed by before my eyes
As I slowly lost my mind
Maybe I was blind
Or didn’t want to see
The life I thought I once wanted
was slowly slipping by me
I can pray a thousand tomorrows
but they’re really not prayers of faith
Rather an avoidance
of the crazy life I’ve made
See I hoped beyond the time allotted
Cried myself to sleep
Dug myself some wacky holes
Must have made some pretty deep
Maybe it takes the best of us
to lose our muddled minds
before we all wake up and realize
we’re really living on Divine time
Yeah, it’s not that it is borrowed
And time you can not steal
You have a greater purpose
A destiny to be revealed
Waking up from a delusion
is not always a pretty scene
To tell you all the truth
It can appear as quite obscene
If I drop down on my knees
and pray a little more
could I receive another miracle?
believe like I did before?
I saw a bumper sticker
that mocked me yesterday
“With God all things are possible”
but I’ve forgotten how to pray
See, I saw myself unworthy
of grace and love and peace
and then I was reminded
of the thing I’ve done the least
Stayed in the faith and surrendered
to be who I was born to be!
Instead I fought and resisted
just simply being me
So now a thousand tomorrows
have birthed me into today
and life is changing quickly
and not in all the ways
I had been able to imagine
a potential yet unseen
the answers to my deeper prayers
were to be a bigger Me
So I lay down all of my defenses
of doubt, excuse, and fear
My only prayer now gratitude
for the dream I’m coming near
A future that is unfolding
a life that will soon reveal
what God has had in store for me
a truth that is more real
I prayed a thousand tomorrows
and a lot has changed along the way
yet nothing has been wasted
‘cause I woke up again today
To a destiny revealed to me
the greater reason for my breath
I exist for a grander purpose
yet forever dismissed the depth
of how far I could choose to travel
beyond "limits" of space and time
If only I had known before
the destiny that was mine
And yet I am not sad,
‘cause of what I now know to be true
That every single step I took
has lead me back to you
A destiny revealed itself
in my avoidance and my doubt
Everything had its reasons
even what I thought I was without
So now I’ll make a simple prayer
to say yes to being me
a destiny of love and joy
and finally I’ll be free!
