Is it Really Possible? Join Me Tonight - June 30!

The last few weeks I have shared bits and pieces about the turn of events in our lives and tonight, for the first time, I will be sharing some life changing news. Honestly, I've needed some time to digest the opportunities of late (and tell all of our kids, families and friends, which we did this weekend) and I will most likely go into some sort of mini retreat to prepare for all that is happening (wow, it is beyond possible, it is really happening!).

The imagery of this declaration may cause even the most carnivorous of us to get a little uncomfortable. 

And, my sense is more of us should declare today "Enough Day!" and be done with that which is no longer serving us.

Enough struggle. Enough sacrifice. Enough doubt, fear, excuses and whining.

Done!

And, enough "tomorrows." Enough laters. Enough afters and enough whens.

Enough hoping, more being. Enough regret and more forgiveness.

Let's unlock these doors and open the windows.

Let's be the movers and shakers in our own lives.

The world is waiting for a new hero and you are it.

You are the next Mandela. You are the next Martin Luther King.

You are the next wave of beauty and grace that is entering into your life.

And, I need you to be you. The world needs you to be you.

A thousand tomorrows

Have gotten me to today

A life of both love and chaos

What is it that I prayed?

I woke up again this morning

To a me I have let down

Dreaming in wrong directions

Time to turn some things around

Just one more day, I must have prayed

At least a thousand times

Three years passed by before my eyes

As I slowly lost my mind

Maybe I was blind

Or didn’t want to see

The life I thought I once wanted

was slowly slipping by me

I can pray a thousand tomorrows

but they’re really not prayers of faith

Rather an avoidance

of the crazy life I’ve made

See I hoped beyond the time allotted 

Cried myself to sleep

Dug myself some wacky holes

Must have made some pretty deep

Maybe it takes the best of us

to lose our muddled minds

before we all wake up and realize

we’re really living on Divine time

Yeah, it’s not that it is borrowed

And time you can not steal

You have a greater purpose

A destiny to be revealed

Waking up from a delusion

is not always a pretty scene

To tell you all the truth

It can appear as quite obscene

If I drop down on my knees

and pray a little more

could I receive another miracle?

believe like I did before?

I saw a bumper sticker

that mocked me yesterday

“With God all things are possible”

but I’ve forgotten how to pray

See, I saw myself unworthy

of grace and love and peace

and then I was reminded

of the thing I’ve done the least

Stayed in the faith and surrendered

to be who I was born to be!

Instead I fought and resisted

just simply being me

So now a thousand tomorrows

have birthed me into today

and life is changing quickly

and not in all the ways

I had been able to imagine

a potential yet unseen

the answers to my deeper prayers

were to be a bigger Me

So I lay down all of my defenses

of doubt, excuse, and fear

My only prayer now gratitude

for the dream I’m coming near

A future that is unfolding

a life that will soon reveal

what God has had in store for me

a truth that is more real

I prayed a thousand tomorrows

and a lot has changed along the way

yet nothing has been wasted

‘cause I woke up again today

To a destiny revealed to me

the greater reason for my breath

I exist for a grander purpose

yet forever dismissed the depth

of how far I could choose to travel

beyond "limits" of space and time

If only I had known before

the destiny that was mine

And yet I am not sad,

‘cause of what I now know to be true

That every single step I took

has lead me back to you

A destiny revealed itself

in my avoidance and my doubt

Everything had its reasons

even what I thought I was without

So now I’ll make a simple prayer

to say yes to being me

a destiny of love and joy

and finally I’ll be free!

A Conversation With Self

A Conversation With "Self"

"All is in Divine Order, everything happens for a reason, all is moving towards the highest good of all," I whisper over and over again to myself, hoping to ward off the tears of frustration that are quickly winning the battle with my illusion of self-control.

"Why am I doing this?" I ask my Self.

"That's a good question, why are you doing this?" my Self responds with her obnoxiously calm voice.

"I don't have a choice. And how the hell can you be so calm? We just drove two days to get here!"

"Sure you have a choice. You always have a choice. And, don't forget, I was in the car with you. We had a blast. We laughed; we meditated, we wrote, and sang and had fun with Brent! What are you complaining about?"

"You wouldn't be saying that if you experienced what I have!" I whine, feeling a little dismissed by my Self.

"Maybe, maybe not; but this isn't about me is it?"

"You are me!"

"Am I?"

I have to admit, this is only a portion of the inner dialogue I had with my many selves during our travels last week. There's only so far you can run from your "selves" when you're confined to the front seat of a tightly packed car, driving up and down I-95, and living out of a bag that is stuffed with more pillows than clothes.

And, tonight was the kicker. 13 hours in the car, sweat from the Florida humidity rolling down my forehead, 90 minutes of setting up the Medicine Wheel and our display table, and no one shows up!

Disappointing? Embarrassing, humiliating, a waste of time?

"God, this is ridiculous. You've got to be kidding me!" I say, shaking my head.

Brent and I patiently wait about 40 minutes before we begin to pack up the CD's and books we had just hauled out of the hot car into the equally as hot building.

I begin to break down the Medicine Wheel; carefully wrapping the Buddha, Mary, Jesus, the Star of David, my statue of Ganesha and all of the candles, stones, and trinkets people have gifted to the wheel over the last year.

Truth, forgiveness, peace, compassion, beliefs, stories, power, faith, unity; one-by-one I place the 41 hand-painted stones back into the worn baskets that house them between our various workshops and retreats.

The rocks are mocking me. They're laughing so hard I swear I'll soon see tears rolling out of the smooth stones that feel more like my enemies than my friends right now.

I find myself tempted to find a dumpster and unload the weight of my heartbreak so I don't have to travel with it anymore. I fantasize about how much more space we would have if I just tossed it all in the garbage.

"I'm not really sure you should throw this all away. Maybe you can find a recycle bin, or drop it off at Good Will so someone else can use it."

"Oh shut up!" I say back to my Self, my eyes rolling at the sound of my own inner voice. "Your sarcasm isn't helping me here."

"Hey, you're the one talk'in trash. I mean, come on! Are you really going to throw away a gift you've been asked to share? You are hours away from being done editing the book!"

"It's just too hard. I can't do this anymore. I'm tired. And irritated. And pissed."

"OK, so quit. Quit what you're doing. Close it all down. Throw the book in the trash. Burn the cards. Delete the files. Dream up another dream. Go get a job."

"I don't want to. That's not why I'm here. I'd rather die."

"Now we're getting somewhere. So you do want this."

"No. I don't want this. I'm tired of the struggle. I want something different. I want more and I want less. More ease and less stress."

"OK, so what does more ease and less stress look like to you?"

"I'm teaching, writing, ministering, healing. Brent and I are creating and sharing our music and working and serving together. "

"You're already doing all these things. Every day. For years. Together."

"I want to start a church, a center, a sanctuary for healing, and learning, and growing, and awakening, and community."

"You have one. It's called the Power of Our Way Community."

"Yeah, but. . ."

"Yeah, but what?"

"Well, I need-or at least I feel like I need-to be physically with people a lot more than I am right now. I am being asked to serve in a different way - a bigger way-again. I'm feeling frustrated because of what I've come to know and what I've seen as possible. I want so badly to share it with as many people as I can. I am actually in pain over this!"

"Pain over what? Your picture of how? Your picture of what would be enough and what isn't? Your time frame? The numbers of people who show up or don't show up? Money?"

"I know why I am here. I know why I create what I create and what I am to be and do!"

"Well, than that makes you one of the luckiest people on the planet. You found your soul calling and your soul mate! You have beautiful children, amazing pets, incredible friends, and many gifts and talents that most would only dream of. Plus, you have a bigger collection of miracles than anyone you know and a capacity to navigate challenges with a smile like no one I've ever met."

"We've been through some crap haven't we?" And some pretty amazing miracles!" I say, feeling the shift into gratitude.

"Yeah, you should write a book about it."

"I should, shouldn't I?"

We stand there in silence. Me and me. Human self, higher self. Little me and big me. My big girl, my little girl. Whatever. We just stand there, looking up at the ever-expanding sky. I take in a breath and a long and deep sigh seems to carry away all of the weight I was feeling.

It's beautiful. My favorite time of day. Purples, pinks, oranges, and blues swirling and dancing in complete joy. They don't need anyone watching them to be beautiful. They just are. The heavenly view changes a million times as the sun and moon blow kisses into the sky and wave hello and goodbye in their magical changing of the guard.

"It's been a hot one," says the sun. "I'll cool things down," smiles the moon. "I'll help!" the wind giggles as he blows a loving and cooling breeze across my face.

"Hey," I take in a deep breath and say to my Self, "thanks for being here. And thanks for being so honest and patient with me."

"Where else would I be? We're kind of stuck with each other."

"Thank God."

"Yeah, thank God."

As I shove the last of the boxes and close the rear door of my stuffed-to-the- hilt car, my eye catches my bumper sticker-the one bumper sticker I've ever been willing to adorn on any car I've ever owned.

Will Work For Peace

I smile as I climb into the passenger seat, making sure I've got my journal, pens, my little pillow, my book, and a bottle of water. I look over at Brent and we both shrug our shoulders and laugh. Everything I need is literally within inches of me. Most is inside of me. All is surrounding me.

"You've got it pretty good don't you?" my wise Self says with her eyebrows slightly raised, as if she is peeking over a pair of invisible spectacles.

"Yeah," I smile to my Self, nodding with agreement. "I'm the luckiest woman on the planet."

"Let's go get something to eat. You've got a big week ahead of you; a lot of places to be, and a lot of people to see! It's kind of nice to have the night off isn't it?" my Self winks back at me, glancing at my handsome hunk of a husband with a sly grin. "Go have some fun tonight girlfriend!"

"Indian?" I ask my increasingly sexy looking husband. "Indian sounds good!" Brent says, "Then, let's go ahead and make the rest of the drive to Jacksonville," he winks back.

"All is in Divine Order, everything happens for a reason, all is moving towards the highest good of all," I whisper over and over again to my Self.

Hello Kindred Spirit,

A few days ago, during a workshop I was teaching I shared an important statement and I felt as if I was speaking it to you and the entire Power of Our Way and Hypnotic Manifestation Communities directly.

Right now, I am imagining I am looking directly into your eyes, taking in a deep breath and then saying, "Believe it, See it, Be it, Know it, Feel it and you WILL Create IT."

They Told Me I Couldn't And I Did!

I WAS TOLD I COULDN'T AND DID IT ANYWAY


Maybe being told I "can't" has been more of a motivator than a discouragement. Unfortunately, this is not the case for a lot of people.

I remember back in 1992 when I was told by my boss that I couldn't get pregnant and keep my job and instead paved the way for dozens of women to have children without fearing they would lose their jobs or be mistreated.

In 1993 I was told I couldn't have children without risking death or deformity and I had two beautiful (albeit premature) girls who are happy and healthy.

In 1997 I was told I could not continue to work and live a normal, pain free life. I was told I couldn't watch my girls grow up and that I was facing an early and painful death. I was told I could never heal from a disease that was preventing me from even doing the simplest things. Ha! Instead, through my own unique recipe for healing, I rewrote the story, completely healed, and have remained completely healthy and pain free - my doctor's miracle!

In 1998 I was told I would never find happiness in a relationship and I may as well settle and "feel lucky for what I had." 10 minutes after writing a letter to God, I met Brent, began writing again, got married, and am living "happily ever after."

In 2003 I was told I couldn't publish a spiritual book and music with my husband and be taken seriously. I was told I would ruin my career as a business coach and I should hide who I was. Today, we have an incredibly diverse and loving global community with over 14,000 members all devoted to raising consciousness and taking responsibility for their own shift.

So, recently, when we received a phone call telling us that we could not use the phrase "Having it All" in any of our written materials, I found myself in stitches over the symbolism of being told that "Having it All" was "owned" by someone and I couldn't use these three words ever again. As much as I believed this phrase was a commonly and universally used colloquialism, similar to "Living the American Dream" it just wasn't worth fighting over.

AND, I BELIEVE WE CAN (HAVE IT "___")

It brought me back to all of these times (and many more) when someone with great authority told me "I couldn't have it all."  It reminded me of how many hundreds of clients over the years who suffered miserably with perceived limitations, fears, blocks, relationship woes, and major health and emotional issues because somewhere along the line they were "TOLD" something so tragically limiting and self-sabotaging, and came to BELIEVE it so deeply, that it became TRUE.

Please listen to this because it is critically important for all of us.

I believe the challenges I have experienced in my life have been gifts that helped me understand a potential well beyond what the world teaches us.

I believe I exist to share what I have learned in some very hard ways so you don't have to suffer in a world that has been constructed by your beliefs and expectations, many of which have been taught to you out of fear, lack, greed and selfishness.

We are not given miracles such as I have been given just for ourselves. We are gifted with the treasures in our lives so we can share them with others.

 We're Coming Back to Florida!

I’ve just returned to a life that once seemed completely normal and wanted. Tornadoes and storms came Wednesday and caused our world to slow down significantly. The next morning, after packing by candlelight, we arrived at the wooded property where my husband would embark on his Vision Quest with two other prayerful warriors who follow the Lakota way. Each having made (physically and spiritually) 1000 prayers in preparation, they left behind all human comforts to inhabit a space deep in the woods that is the size of a small blanket. No food or water and minimal protection from the elements were the primary physical “sacrifices” as they called out for a vision in preparation for Sundance in July. Their commitment to this challenging path is beyond impressive.

Having just stepped out of one of the hottest sweat lodges I have ever been in, they prepare their peace pipes in a way that is more reverent than anything I have ever witnessed (in any faith tradition). I am brought to tears; feeling a little self conscious, hoping my bothers and sisters understand I am crying because of the immense faith and commitment I am seeing in these three amazing people. I am humbled to be in the presence of such a conscious community. Diane, the water pourer who has dedicated her life to this path—the red path as it is called—is truly the embodiment of compassion, intention, and purpose. 

The three who are questing leave the camp knowing that we will drink and eat for them while they are “up on the hill.” An act of faith much more than bravery, they trust that we are so connected that we will take care of them by taking care of ourselves, by praying, and keeping the fire going. I know much of the region is suffering in the extreme heat that was left in the wake of violent storms and massive power outages. I sense the emerging synchronicities of what ultimately proved to be a metaphysically magical and powerful weekend of ceremony and support and feel the awe presencing itself within.

So, I’ve been in a world where strangers greet one another as if they were long time friends who had not seen one another for years. A world where resumes and credentials are insignificant, being of service to one another is the primary focus and desire of the people who gather to pray and do ceremony in these ancient ways. No one is worried about how much they weigh or what they look like. Pantyhose, designer clothes and hair dryers would be seen as both absurd and unnecessary, and success has nothing to do with the amount of money in someone’s bank account or how many visitors they had on their website.

I find it both intriguing and refreshing that no one has ever asked me what I do for a living or who I am connected to. Rather, we all are just taking care of each other and looking for opportunities to come back into greater alignment with the intentions of ceremony and the reasons we come together for this way of praying. I could live like this forever and am already questioning why I am holding onto so much that isn’t the me that I have become today.

I reflect on how much I have changed and sense I have barely scratched the surface of my deeper exploration. I realize I have no idea “who I want to be when I grow up.” There are so many things I just don’t care about anymore and many I am struggling to release into the truth of their irrelevance.

I sweat for the hatred and fear we still carry in our hearts. I pray for the parts of us that have so intensely lost sight of what is important and what isn’t. I wonder when--or if—we can start loving each other again, no matter who we think ourselves and others to be. I pray for clarity and peace for all beings on the planet. I acknowledge that most of what exists in the world has been born out of fear, insecurity, a sense of “not enoughness” and a desperate need to feel love and approval and I pray for a massive healing of all that keeps us feeling separate from one another.

I see spirit in everything. The 20 or so sweat dresses I’ve inherited are being shared with lovely beings that came unprepared yet obviously had no need to be. Now I know why I had to bring them all, in spite of me questioning why I didn’t just bring two for myself. We are all connected and I simply responded to a need I did not know existed. Actually, over the course of the weekend, we all saw powerful examples of the Great Mystery working quite cleverly through us all.

Mindfully preparing the lodge, I wondered how I would do when it was already 98 degrees outside and I’ve been hot for 4 days now. I’m already breaking a sweat by just cleaning the lodge and the fire keepers are melting as they mind the fire underneath the blazing hot sun.

It is so beautiful to see people serving in such bold and broad ways and I wonder why I hold on to so much in my physical life. We come together in ceremony to heal, to release ourselves from the bondage of our beliefs, fears and woundings and to pray for all people, all creatures, all of which is in existence and all of which has ever been and will ever be. The world is changing. I am changing. I know Brent will come off the hill a different man and part of me is already weary of returning to an unchanged world; one that seems to be getting even more difficult to live in for so many.

And, I question, I wonder, I pray. I also vacillate. I wonder why so many of our choices are fueled by fear. I am saddened that so few people know of these ancient ways and I am aware of how reliant the modern world is on keeping people afraid and feeling small and dependent. I begin to lose myself in the energy of the greater truths that are being revealed to me and I struggle with finding the words to pass them along.

What is usually so important and urgent becomes comically ridiculous. I move from humiliation to humility to hilarity several times over the course of the weekend (boy do I have some oddly funny stories to tell!). I can’t worry about anything because there just isn’t anything I can do and I just let myself collapse into the flow. It’s all I can do.

Even as a supporter, over the last four days I have received much more than I have given. When the simple and basic become the most sacred and desired, it shifts your perspective in ways beyond human imaginings. We enter into sweat lodge for the second time in three days. Water and a cool spot of dirt to lay my hot face on are the only manna I wish for. As I see energy and movement in the complete darkness of the lodge and feel the muddy earth cooling my hot skin, I think to myself, what else matters? In this moment, all I want is to stretch out and breathe in the cooler air that is lingering in the inch or so above this hallowed ground. I take in a gulp and my prayer is received into my awareness.

May all my reasons be pure. May I always see the beauty that surrounds me. May all people know God is working in their lives – always – even when they don’t or can’t see it.

I feel the immensity of this healing and I am brought to tears by the magic that is occurring in my life. Supporting the last two vision quests has brought two significant realizations that will forever change me. I am stunned by how the visions received by those who went out on the hill are direct responses to my own recent struggles and requests for healings. Humbled, amazed, comforted, excited, grateful, loved, supported; I feel it all so deeply. I am blessed to witness so many miracles that could never be explained away by logic or reason and I wish to share and build a ministry more than ever before.

I think I can’t go another second, my head is spinning, and then I am reminded of the millions of people who have no air conditioning and minimal access to food and clean water and I release myself into the heat again. Surrendering, I feel my breathing slowing and deepening and I begin singing in the one voice that is now accompanied by the beat of the hot drums. My prayers come yet I do not need to speak for them to be heard.

May all my reasons be pure. May all of our reasons be pure. May we remember the grace and potential of our co-existence and may we wake up to a world that has lost its taste for fear and conflict and hurtful and greedy competition. May we be mindful of our thoughts, especially the destructive ones we carry about others and all that we believe is lacking in our lives. 

Mama, as they call her, one of our elders and a Sundance Mother, dances and sings the bear chant as she comes out of lodge. She stops in front of me with her eyes closed, her upper body coming up into the pose of a fierce bear as she sings the chant and lets out a series of mighty grunts. I can feel her strength and faith coming into me in a great rush of energy. Later, as Brent played his flute and I gave her healing energy to help her with a headache, she says in her prophetic and certain way, “Hmm, this is who you are; this is why you were born.”

Reentry into “normal life” is not easy this time. I am feeling both impatient and frustrated. I am glad to have electricity and running water and yet crave to live in a simpler, more honoring way. I feel as if I have wasted so much precious time on things and reasons that are becoming insignificant to why I am here. I think of all I have wasted on both worry and desire and I crave to live from a deeper meaning and purpose in all moments. I am aware I have been playing small and focusing on so much that doesn’t really matter. I’ve been wimpy, plain and simple. And, Hetchetu Welo, it is good. All good.

I know what is possible. I know how powerful we are and can see what is waiting for us when we decide we are worthy and can release all of what holds us to the perceptions and visions that are asking to change. I know that any judgments we feel towards others are reflections of our own self judgments. I am aware that I am—that we— are on the precipice of great change; individually and collectively.

As much as my heart is full, it is full for reasons that I could only express if I were looking into your eyes, touching your face, and embracing you as I would my own children. And if I was, right now, I would say this to you…

“Know you are loved and believed in. Be true to the destiny that is yours to experience, for it is how you will experience meaning and be of service to the planet. Release the excuses you’ve been traveling with and lighten the load ‘cause magic is coming. You do have some preparing to do. You’re going to be fine and you’ll understand “why” very soon. Look for the beauty and the love because they are abundant in your life and need to be acknowledged. Be good to yourself and be generous with others. Forgive what needs to be forgiven so you can make room for all that is coming your way.”
